Unfortunately, no essays will be returned. The Humanist reserves the option of first publication of all entries until the contest winners have been announced in the spring of the next year. Winning essays will then become the sole property of the American Humanist Association, publisher of the Humanist, while all rights to non-winning essays will revert back to their authors.
Quality and freshness of content or approach will be among the criteria, and all decisions by the panel of judges will be final.
